I am the one who is having the problem that reverse makes my boat go into forwards and forward makes it go into reverse. I had a mechanic come look at it and he took apart the throttle box and said everything was fine. He said it is somethng in my lower unit, and said he'd never seen this before. My F***ing luck. He said the motor spins the right way to. Any ideas?

It's kinda hard not knowing which motor you have but my guess is that the lower unit was swapped and the wrong year was put on. You'll most likely just need the powerhead linkage that matches the year of the lower unit. No big deal really.

If the control is an OMC or BRP control there's no need to take it apart, they all shift the same.

its a 1975 johnson seahorse. Where do i buy the linkage, and how will i know what one to buy. Its weird because the lower unit is green and matches the upper portion of the motor which is also green.

Prop Question... interesting

Prop Question... interesting

I am having the problem that forward is reverse and reverse is forward. I had it looked at and it is the lower unit. More than likely someone put on a 1978 and newer lower unit on my 1975 johnson 70hp seahorse. So heres my question. Cant i just put on a counter rotating prop and it will go back to normal?

Even if there was a counter rotaing prop, which there isn't for a 3 cylinder, you'd be running on the reverse gear and it wouldn't last long. Now that we know it's a 3 cylinder just go to the parts catalog at shop.evinrude.com and look at the differences between your linkage (1975) and the linkage on the 1978. Just order those pieces. You'll beed the stud and related linkages. No big deal really.
