Hello. Thank you all for the advise over the years. I have really enjoyed using this site to figure out issues. Here we go. I just bought a brand new 2017 boat and picked it up Saturday. I get home and reinstall the seating and notice a broken section of the boat mold near the seating. I have no idea how this happened. It could have happened while the guys were cleaning it up before I left or maybe something hit it on the way home. Not sure but it made me sick. However, if you look at the pictures posted, behind the molded section is a void before the fiberglass. The corner was not at all reinforced. Also, the mold at this section appears very thin (1/32 of an inch or so). I put in an email to the dealer with photos right away and anticipate talking to them shortly. Have you all heard of this happening often? What are the odds that the manufacturer is going to try not to cover this under the warranty? Am I correct in assuming that there should be no open space or void behind the corner of the mold? This section is suppose to be a fishing platform so I would assume that it should be rather sturdy. Thank you for any advise you all can provide.

That sure looks like a void under the gel coat. Absolutely looks like a manufacturing defect to me.

Yep, I completely agree. Honestly, sometimes that happens when laying up shapes with corners and turns (even on the best of boats). Completely repairable and they should definately take care of it for you.

Thank you JA and Ned! I don't know much about fiberglass repair except that it is expensive. I'm glad to hear that it is repairable. I thought that if it was too costly they may try to skirt liability. I did speak with the salesman today who will review the photos that I sent Saturday when I got home from the dealership and schedule to bring it in for repairs. We sure did enjoy being out Saturday afternoon. This one is a Hurricane CC19 and a much desired step up from our Maxum 1800mx bow rider.

Thanks again for the input and all you both do for the forum!

Not sure what you meant by "reinstalling the seating", but definitely defective workmanship. Looks like there are 2 voids? The manufacturer will get soaked by the dealer for a few hundred for each.

My worry would be if that is the extent of it . . . or not. :noidea:

Many boats do have some voids, but they are not supposed to have any.

tpenfield. I'm worried about the extent as well. It looks like the void stretches about two inches back. Hopefully it won't be too bad. The photos are of the same crack that is on the fishing platform so when I was putting the removable seat cushions back, that's when I noticed this break. The dealer did assure me that it was covered so I will be taking it back this month.

FWIW, co-worker has a Ranger Bass Boat with a life-time warranty on his hull. he uses his boat in tournaments every weekend. the transom developed a crack. the factory simply took his boat, swapped his motor and gear to a new boat and he got a complete new hull.

not sure what brand you have, however I would be insisting on a new hull with the size of those voids.

I had a void in my '05 Four Winns when I bought it new - under one of the transom tie down eyes. Dealer repaired under warranty, no muss/no fuss.

Just to help anyone else out...what brand/model of boat is this??

For better communication with the dealer, that's not a mold, a mold is what that part was made on.

That's a fairly common defect, it's not structural and can be fixed easily, but as a new owner it is a bit troubling. These things are covered under just about every warranty.
