We purchased a dingy for my son with a Johnson 1976 10 hp motor. While replacing the prop pin, I did not put the cotter pin in correctly and we lost the propeller and all. I am struggling to make sure I have all the correct parts. I purchased the hub kit and propeller recommended on iboats plus a prop nut. I think I am still missing parts. ... like a thrust washers? and what holds the prop pin in? I know these are probably basic questions but I a little lost here. Any help would be great.

The prop pin is in the front hub of the propeller. It locates the propeller fore and aft, absorbs engine thrust, and may also be a shear pin. The tailcone slides over the prop hub and holds the pin in place. The cotter pin goes through the hole in the tailcone and prop shaft. It holds the tailcone on. After installing the cotter pin the ends must be bent over to keep it from slipping out, causing loss of tailcone, thrust pin, and propeller.

So if I have lost the tailcone and front hub, I can I buy a replacement. Or do I just need to bring this to someone to fix?

No, you have lost the prop, thrust/shear pin, and tailcone. The propeller contains a rubber bushed hub. The front of the hub sticks out from the prop and has a hole in it to receive the thrust pin. The prop shaft will have two holes: a larger one for the thrust pin and more rearward an smaller hole for the tailcone cotter pin. Thus, you need to buy another prop, a thrust pin, a tailcone, and a cotter pin for it.

And nail down the correct year for your motor. Johnson didn't manufacture a 10hp in 1976, rather they had a 9.9. And, the 9.9 used a splined shaft, not a pin-drive. Post your model number and we can nail it down for you.
