I've got a 2002 Suzuki DF-140 and trying to pull the prop shaft housing out. The manual calls for a slide hammer to do that but I don't have one. I've improvised and am using a puller instead. Please look at the pic attached and tell me if it is okay to do it this way......before I start breaking stuff.

Thanks

Looking at the diagram of the lower unit ...

it looks like your setup should work, in theory, once you've removed the two bolts that attach the bearing housing to the casing. Since I can't tell from your picture, I assume the hook ends of the puller are positioned in front of the rear lip of the bearing housing?

However, depending on the degree of corrosion, these housings can be difficult to remove. If you don't want to go the slide-hammer route, I'd probably it try your way ... going slowly to see if it's going to move. You don't want to end up cracking the housing!

Thanks,
Thats what I was thinking. It will be slow....heating it up and lubing it but I think it will prevent it from breaking anything.

Thanks again.

Just wondering how you made out with this problem as I am having the same problem with my DT 115 and could use some advice. Seals are shotand I cannot get the housing out of the lower unit- badly corroded- salt water engine. I see you are pulling on the housing and pushing on the shaft, but aren't you supposed to pull on the shaft to get the housing out?

Re: Need help on pulling prop shaft housing out.

I have done this 2 dt 75, one was fresh and one was saltwater. op never did respond as to weather this worked or not. but since you did a search I'll help. mods don't like you opening up old threads. it was pretty easy on freshwater motor. tapped on housing a couple of times, and I was able to get it to start to seperate tapped on crack evenly when a brass punch and housing came righ out. saltwater was much different story, you will need heat, aycetlyne torch preferably but mapp gas will work. w/mapp heat evenly about 15 minutes outside of case, be calful aluminum will melt. you can make your own slide hammer,2lb piece of steel, cheap hammer head no handle works a threaded steel rod, and an 'S" hook slow start to separate housing if it stop separateing add more heat, and BE PACIENT (sp)
