Need help on reattaching power steering cooler

The boat is a '97 Larson 206SEI with a Mercruiser 5.7L and Alpha 1.
While looking for a leak in my power steering system I discovered that my cooler isn't connected to anything for support. It just hangs by the hoses at the back of the engine. There appears to be a bracket attached to the cooler with a hose clamp but the bracket isn't bolted to anything. There are two hole at the back of the engine below the distributor that look like they might be where it should bolt.
I can't seem to find any diagrams or pictures of this. I tried 1/4" bolts in the holes, they were too small. I tried 5/16 bolts and they didn't want to thread in. I wouldn't think this engine would need metric bolts but maybe it does.
Can anyone help me with a diagram or picture of how this should be mounted? Also, what size and thread bolts need to be used? It's a very difficult place to access on my boat. I can only get one hand in there at a time and I can only half way see what I'm doing.

Thanks,

A lot of them did bolt to the top of the flywheel cover. Probably won't find a picture of where it belongs exactly, as long as it's supported by the clamp and not the hoses, and the hoses all fit properly, bolt it down.

I don't see your exact engine s/n in your post but maybe see the link below on a starting point from the perf pro tech site then adjust the parameters for you engine but looks like, at least for this engine, there could be a 5/16 or 3/8 bolt used.
Did you try both coarse(18) and fine (24) thread bolts for the 5/16?

Top of the flywheel cover look like the right spot.
Thanks for the link, that looks like a great site.
I tried coarse thread 5/16 because that's what I had. It may be a fine thread. It doesn't look like it will be metric.
I'll have to get two of those and give them a try.

Ayuh,.... Chevy bellhousin' bolts have always been 3/8"- 16....

Donno if they ever went metric or not...

If so, 5/16ish lookin' hole are probably 8mm,...
