need help on searanger vhf radio

hi every happy new year, i just got this searanger radio from a friend, i took it and hook it up at my house on my radio shack power supply, i got it hook up with a shakespear 5241-R antener so far it is not picking up any channel, i try turning the sQ button but it does nothing, could it be it not sopose to work on this antener??? or maybe my power supply is not sending out much power?????<br /><br /><br />the model is searanger SR5561 IT HAS THESE NOBS, C16 D/W SCN US/1 H/L DIM WX TX NOB ANY HEL WILL BE SO GREAT. i know they dont make these radio no more. thanks for any info on this.

bolo: with that ant.or a plain piece of short wire you should be able to receive a noaa weather station.Dont expect a lot of talk on the channels(its not the season) but "DON'T" try to tx w/o an ant. cause you will blow the finals w/o a load.<br />just my .02 .

Happy New Year!<br /><br />Also, with an antenna you may find you need a few feet (6ft?) of coax before you can receive anything other than a wx station.

ok thanks guys for the info, i got it working i live on the top floor of my building so i put the antenna on the roof. put the scan button and it pick up a lot of auction, lol i also open it up and found a lot of the diodes corroded i clean them and the circruit board with wd-40 now it seems to be working fine. <br /><br /><br />as i said before thanks for the quick respond.
