Need help on shift rod adjustment...

Hello All,

I just removed the LU from my 1989 Johnson 110 VRO V4. I believe the shift rod has turned a few times, and after adding my two cents to it, I now have no clue where it should be or how it was (smacked myself on the hand with a wrench for doing that). Can one of the forum tech pros help me out here? My Johnson manual is very general and doesn't drill down specifically in that area. How do I reset and what is the appropriate measurement for this model year?

Thanks in advance..

I don't know the measurement for your engine (Should be in the manual), but you will measure from top of the gear case surface to the center of the hole at the top of the shift rod in neutral.

I don't have the 1989 measurement BUT unless it has been changed from eariler models, it would be:

90 thru 115hp = (L) 21-27/32" - - (XL) 26-27/32" plus/minus 1/32" Have shift rod in neutral.

This is measured from the top surface of the lower unit casting to the center of the shift rod hole.

If this is an incorrect measurement for the 1989 110hp model, I'm sure that I'll be corrected shortly by another tech.
