I need help in wiring up my 68 evinrude 3 cyl 55 hp ob motor. I can get the motor to run but I cannot get the solenoid to engage or click. I have tested the solenoid and it does work and will pass current to the starter.
My problem is I have two wires that attach to the small posts on the solenoid One goes back to the starter switch and I have tested this back to the wire harness connections that are under the cover. This connection I think is the pos connection from the switch and it goes to what looks like a green wire in the bundle back to the ingnition switch.
The second wire goes to a small 1" by 3/4" black bakelite box right next to the flywheel ( looks like a pickup of some type). The connection to this is good. The black box ( I cannot get a photogragh of) has a second open spade terminal and I don't know if this supposed to go any where or not.
I think it would go to a ground but I cannot find a loose wire or one that looks like it should connect up.
The solenoid looks like an 80's Ford type and is not grounded so my assumption is this second wire has to go to ground if the one from the ignition is a positive feed.
Thanks
Glynn
