The boat is a 1984 17' baja 170 sport
1984-85? Johnson gt150
it has a Precision propellers turbo 20 - 14 1/4 ss prop

It will run around 60 mph with two of us in it but it over revs a bit. It will run up to 6000 rpm if i let it. The prop is a little dinged up so i would like to replace it. I would like to get something a prop that will run the same speed or a little faster but with lower rpms. I would really like to keep it under the 5500 max rpm range that is suggested for this motor.

Re: Need help picking a prop

I can't be too specific but the rule of thumb is "ABOUT" 200 rpm change woith each inch of pitch. So a 22 same brand same material should put you at about 5,600.
and likely an increase in speed.Usually props are odd number pitch.
Specialty pros may have all kinds of design treatments so a brand change all bets are off though a ss prop should deliver at least some of your target.
