I have a 70hp Nissan, and prop is an 11 x 14; went to have it re-hubbed, and the guy at boat store said prop is too small; if I understood him correct, I only have to worry about the diameter (to make sure it fits in the space for it, and the proper hub) For my engine, they have pitch all the way up to a 17 1/2; problem is I dont have a tach, so I don't know what RPMS I'm pulling; top speed I get is around 25-28mph; question is, does the diameter make any diffference other than will it fit the motor, and am I safe (or will it make that noticeable a difference) to jump to a 15 or 16 inch pitch ?

Troyo,

Most serious prop shops will help you determining the right prop.

A tach is an important tool for this (and in general nice to have).

If you want to know more about props, check here
