I just purchased a used Johnson Sea-Horse 3 JW-10, 3hp outboard from a local flea market for $42.00. Sellar claimed that the engine was frozen so I took a gamble. Got it up on the workbench and quickly determined that the engine is moving fine but the Propeller is frozen solid.

Now here?s my question: How do I remove the Propeller Shaft and Gearing? I have removed the lower unit from the exhaust shaft, have removed the Propeller assemble and have removed all of the bearing housing screws, removed the drive shaft, everything?etc. For the life of me, the propeller shaft and gears seem very, very stuck. I don?t want to damage the housing?.anyone have a suggestion or two?

Thanks,

Wanted to circle back to this request and update the forum. I ended up using a robust Slide-Hammer, Gear Puller to remove the Propeller Shaft (See Picture). Wow, I thought the unit was trash when it opened up, talk about old and crusty gear oil. After a little elbow grease, the unit cleaned up nicely

Glad to hear it worked out! The shaft spins in the housing ok now? That thing was pretty nasty looking. Any trouble finding seals for it?

Now on to the fun part! Getting it running! :)

Cheers..................Todd
