Long story short, my boat was running hot. Its the second season ive had it so I decided to replace the impeller and thermostat. Its a 97 mercruiser 350 mag. Serial number 0k040853. I went to pull the thermostat and its got a lot of rust and this plastic sleeve around it. I can't get the sleeve or thermostat out. Any ideas? I'm trying to get out on the water sat. If i have to I'll buy a new housing completely but I can't get the brass lines that run into the side off... my new thermostat kit with gaskets doesn't come with the sleeve anyways. Does anyone have a part number for it?

I'm pretty sure I've got the new impeller and gaskets hooked up right but the old impeller didn't look tore up.. I'm hoping all this will solve my overheating issue...

the old impeller looks like it has a "set" to it .Those plastic items are available 806922 sleeve.
. I would grab the therm spring with visegrips and
and do the twist and pull

plug your serial number in here https://webapps.brunswick.com/literature/literatureSearch.do

I'm hoping it was the impeller, but clearly my thermostat was due. i tried with vise grips and no luck. That plastic piece seems pretty good and set in.

Yes. But it does NOT include the sleeve. The sleeve is 20-806922...

Can't find it at west marine or napa.. damn
Mercruiser dealer only or online. The white plastic sleeve normally slides out, you just got to slowly walk the sleeve out first any way you can. Not going to lie, it's tight but it can be done. It's best to get a new one though.;)

Cover the new Sleeve with 2-4-C Grease when you put it back in. It will be a lot easier to remove next time.
I pull the Thermostat every winter to assure the Antifreeze gets into the block. It doesn't go back in until the Spring.
The more often it comes out the easier it will be.

Try boiling the housing in a pan of water with some vinegar to loosen all the crud.
If the thermostat opens when the water reaches ~160 degrees, it is working!

The brass fittings are the Temperature Sender and the Over Temperate Alarm Switch.
Place the housing in a vice and but a 6 point socket on them, Pull like you really mean it, they will come out.
