Thinking about replacing my old prop on this old 18hp Johnson with a stainless steel prop. Could use a little more humph getting started to get on plane. Any suggestions? Looked at newer Evinrude props, but am not sure they will fit. Current prop has a rubber hub and shear pin.
Thanks for any help!

I do not believe you will find a stainless prop for that motor.---If you are running on say a 14' aluminum that motor should have plenty of power.--------Perhaps you need to inspect / tune the motor.

Being a 55 year oldie, a new same pitch prop will be near mission impossible to find, check with manufacturer if still are currently available. If not will need to send that prop to a prop shop and have it properly restored to new.

There are new props listed here at iboats To do it right you will need a tach.An induction tach should work.
If you read the stickies at the top of the prop forum it will help you understand better about prop selection.
Basically we need your boat size and weight and a lightly loaded wot rpm and gps speed.
When new a 18 was rated for about 27 mph on a light reasonably fast boat.

Try iboats - you would be surprised what you can find. If you cannot find a new one, as some props from that era are no longer manufacturered, your best bet is a boat boneyard, or ebay. Find the part number for your prop on one of the many parts diagrams out there online, and do an ebay search.

I had the OEM prop on my 1958 Fastwin 18 I bought new when I was a teen. Saved up my money and got her. I could water ski behind it on a 14' alum boat.........hard getting up but after that ok...course I was learning to ski then too, which was the majority of the problem. Sorry I don't have the specs handy. If someone knows the OEM size it might help you.

As I said previously a healthy 18 will make about 27 mph on a light reasonably fast boat.
And should have strong hole shot. There should be numbers near the base of the blades or on the barrel.
Probably 9 something by 10 or 11.
Your size and performance depends on your boat.
You should do a compression check and be sure the motor is in excellent tune before trying a new prop.
I stumbled on Dans Prop Shop Inc. If we can get you figured out maybe Dan can help.

I had a 9 1/4 "diameter prop with.a 11" pitch on my 18hp and I GPS the speed at 26 to 27 mph. Then it started slipping from age and I didn't know better and put a 7" pitch on and I lost 10mph. I am sick over buying it. Needless to say, an 11" pitch is going back on. Anyone need a 9 1/4 x 7". I don't think I need a tug boat , but it will beat rowing.

I think the OEM was a 9"x 10". ,Learned that the expensive way, like everything else. I wouldn't put anything over an 11" pitch unless your motor is like new.

You had 4 pitch choices.7 for heavy loads,9 and 10 most commonly used and 11 for very light loads.I had about 10 or more of the 18 hp props and all were 9 and 10 pitch.

You must tach OEM current factory deliivered prop before blindly guessing and buying any other prop which will be dumping $$$ into the blue. That way will know if it's a good performer as currently loaded, buy same one if shot, go for a less pitch to pull wot revs up or even modifying prop at a prop shop that abound now a days. Insane to buy props just by achieved speed wihout the slightest knowlidge of wot rpm achieved during each prop test.
