Hello,
I am having a problem starting one engine on the twin I/O setup.
The starter is clicking like when the battery charge is low. I have tried to use jumper cables from the engine that starts but still no luck.

I have 3 parallel batteries connected to the engine that doesn't start and 2 to the one that starts without a problem.
Shore power is present on the boat and it looks to charge only the batteries of the other engine. I left jumper cables overnight, connected to the batteries charged with shore power with the once that are drained and still no luck.
I connected a portable booster-starter to the parallel batteries of the engine that doesn't start. Still no luck with it.
What is the alternative that I am missing?

Thanks

For starters(no pun intended), clean all of the battery terminals and check that the ground connection back to the block is not corroded. Once done, to no avail, check ampere draw on the starter motor.
1) clean all connections
2) check for excess draw on starter motor.
3) check starter solenoid

In that order

Ok, I cleaned and tightened all connections.
Checked and cleaned ground on the engine block. All looks good. Finaly for a test purpose I took a good battery from the engine that starts and connected it to the engine that doesn't.

I can see pulleys turning but the starter is making a sound as if it's not getting enough power.
I'm not sure how to check for "draw on starter motor".
Can anyone please suggest what I should do?
Thank you.

The starter looks new on that motor and the previous owner of the boat says he replaced the starter not too long ago. I strongly hope that the starter is difective.
I hope my problem does not turn out to be an engine problem. .
Thank you guys for your support and suggestions.

Best Regards to all,
Lenny

Take off the starter and have it tested. Most auto parts places will do this for free.

Re: Need help starting Merc 350

You can do a quick voltage check from the cable going to the starter and the block while trying to start the motor. Do the check while trying to start each motor to compare how much the voltage drops. If it drops too low on the probem motor then check back at the battery. If the voltage at the battery drops when trying to start and you know your battery is strong, then it is probably your starter like bondo says.
