need help to get more speed

I have a 1990 Cajun Tournment Series bass boat with a Mercury 150 XR2, it has a Ballistic 14.75 x 15 prop set 3" below pad. I can only get 41 mph gps speed tach shows rmp at 5600. Will changing prop help?

Changing the prop to more pitch will lower the WOT RPM's and not gain you more that 1 or 2 MPH for every step up in Pitch. It will also make the hole shot slower. If you want speed you will have to probly go with a bigger motor.

You say the ventilation plate is 3 inches below the pad? If it is,it is way too deep, you could raise the engine 5 inches with no worries. Scrape the Ballistic and get a good prop, Mercury makes several lines. Also your pitch is too low you SHOULD be able to run at least a 21.
