Need Help Trying To I.D. 8 HP Mariner

Cannot determine year of my Mariner 8 (Sailmate) with the following numbers: 677 SU800181. Fwiw, there is NO welch plug on the motor and the I.D. tag says 'Made In Japan'. See Attached Tag:

... but, but, but ... I'm 800181 ... and confused. These numbers are 800441 and higher. I'm drowning!

Roscoe, thank you ... I'll go with the 1978 reference. I picked up another 8HP Mariner which has the Serial Number:

Mariner 8M / 677 S 041322

I used your reference source and could you confirm that this motor is a 1981? I am hoping to utilize some of the parts from the 1978 to use on the 1981. Once again, thank you for your input.

Oops, my bad.
These older mariners are a real bugger to id.
Seems there is no definitive all inclusive list anywhere.
Even the dealerships have a hard time pinning it down.

Good thing is that most all parts from your 2nd motor will work on the first one.
