need help volv aq140a wont start

I have a 79 bayliner with a Volvo aq140/Penta 280... I can't get it to start it turns over and is getting fuel to the Carb it starts to run but wont stay running...any advice on what it could be would be much appreciated thanx

Sounds like you may be loosing power to the coil when it starts. Turn the key to the run position and see if you have voltage to the + terminal of the coil.
Check with your multimeter. Red meter lead to the coil terminal, negative meter lead to a good clean ground.
