need help wiring alternator

hello guys any info on how to wire a four terminal alternator to a two wire system so far the alternator that was on the boat is the same we want to install, the wires that goes th the teriminal on the alt was rusty an all broke off caunt find out the two wires a red and bvlack sopose to go, infact i think i know where that big red wire go to but where the black sopose to go????<br /><br />thanks for any info also the tack is not working they are only two wires connect to the coil <br /><br />1978 tiera jasper 350 engine points eginition.

We usually call those 1 or 3 wire alts. The black ground wire isn't counted. Connect the black wire to the stud on the alternator that is a bolt directly to the alt case (no fiber washer or isolated stud). Connect the thick red wire to the thick isolated stud on back of alternator. Tape off other wires.
