I think Ive found an OEM TNT for the 1979 Stinger I'm picking up this weekend. I'm stealing the CMC from the Stinger for my Evinrude...and am going to put the OEM tnt in question on the Stinger.

I haven't seen the tnt yet, but seller says it works very well. He says the unit is complete up to the pigtail. He says that I can just buy 2 solenoids at auto parts store to control the "up and down". Seller wants $130 for the TNT.

Before i make the 45 min drive to look at it.....Does the solenoid thing sound right? It's a 1983 unit and it should fit the '79 Stinger correct?

Don't think so.

The 50 and 70/75 use different gear cases. Plus, OMC changed the mounting brackets about 1979.

You're a bit confused, I think.

I'm buying a 1979 stinger(with bad LU) w/ CMC TNT. The motor is a just a bonus...since its the CMC TNT that I'm after. I'm stealing the TNT from it and installing it on my '77 75hp Rude.

I have ALSO found a 1983 OMC TNT that I would like to install on the '79 stinger(the motor with the bad LU). I believe the 1983 TNT should work just fine with the '79 Stinger(seller says they are def compatible)

My question is about the solenoid thing that the seller said I would need.

Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up the t/t for the '83. You'll see what you need for the electrical part of it.

$130 bucks sound like a good price for the '83 TNT?

You'll need the box, wiring and ect to make the tnt work. Don't know what you're planning on doing with this unit but you better quiz the seller further.

Re: Need help with 1983 OMC tilt/trim

The 79 tilt and trim system uses a single, old-style solenoid to run the 3-wire trim motor. An 83 system has a similar box, but with different components including two newer relays to control the 2-wire trim motor. The 2-wire vs the 3-wire systems have little in common with each other. Be sure you are getting all the correct/matching parts you need for the trim from a compatibility standpoint. You did not mention what length midsection the 75 stinger has. Some of the 75 stingers had the 15" midsection. I do not think they were factory made with trim/tilt capability. I believe the 83 trim system will fit a 20" transom Stinger.

Correct. Those motors had a junction/relay box that mounted remotely from the motor. Can easily be upgraded with the newer unit that fits under the cowl.
