need help with 9.5 sportwin evinrude

I have a problem with my 9.5 it is peeing good but power head its getting real hot I don't know what the problem is . But if anyone knows what might be the problem is I will greatly appreciate it thanks.

It is hard to say but it could be a faulty thermostat or even a blockage in the water path. Start by pulling the stat and you can test it in hot water to see if it opens, Water needs to be 150F or higher for the test. Best of luck. Rick.

drop the lower and check the pump just to be sure, while apart blow low pressure air up the water tube, if that works ok hook up a garden hose to the water tube and shoot water up through the water passages, again low pressure. just enough to see if it flows free without restrictions,

Oh ok thanks I'll try them both it has been sitting up for about 5 yrs before it was last ran. But I figure it was one of those dirt Dobber blue Wasp. But I hope I can get it going. I just put a New water pump housing and impeller so that it not the problem. But there is no thermostat in it does it need one in it ?

It should have one installed to operate at the correct temperature. Short term it isn't a concern to run without one. You should be able to hold your hand on the top of the head for a three count when it's running. Much hotter and I would not run it till you find the problem. With the stat out try blowing air up the tube and see if you get air at the stat location. Could be blocked water way there or somewhere else. Rick.

Ok done that Rick but when I put water to tube water comes out from around it at top of tube were it goes under power head so a O ring must be gone BC it don't suppose to leak up there does it
