Need help with a 1989 Evinrude 48SPL

This motor has had the carbs broke down and cleaned out, new spark plugs etc. Was running perfect until about 4 days ago. Now it makes a big popping sound at idle when hooked to the hose and when in the water and you get up to about half throttle the motor revs up high but it doesnt want to go faster and sometimes at low throttle it seems to be louder than it should at low speed? Any ideas??

popping sound like a gun shot? backfire? also could be in the water you have spun the prop. the prop is built with a metal inner and outer hub, with a pressed in rubber bushing between, this will break loss, the inside spins and the outside does not keep up. permanent marker. across your prop, then give it a test run, see if line is still lined up

Found out the carbs just needed a little readjusting and I needed more lesseons about proper tilt settings, thanks tashaddy
