I have a Bayliner trophy with 350 merc I/O board the guy before me changed the cooling system from the the fresh water pump on the motor to the pump on the leg.... It just seems like the risers are getting to hot for my liking 130 degrees c, I don't think there is enough volume of water going through heat exchanger then through risers and exhaust manifolds... The temp gauges stays around 160 but the risers you can barely put your hand on any info would be great thanks...

Ayuh,.... 130?F, or 130?C,..?? you've said both,...

The risers are flowin', 'n mixin' 1200? exhaust gases,....

How cold are ya expectin',..??

hahah sorry its runs around 130 to 160 degrees farenheit and I removed the risers cleaned them inside they looked good new gaskets just wondering whats a safe and max temps for your risers.. had temp gun on thermostat housing says 185degrees shut down climbed over 200 but temp gauge said 160 degrees

Sounds pretty normal to me...... Does this engine have closed-cooling?

Why did you have to "clean" the risers?

Re: Need help with Bayliner Trophy

its a new engine that I built im just worried about it over heating just not sure about this cooling system that was changed on it the water pump used to be through the hull and pump was on motor.. now pump is on leg smaller pump different volume of water???? it goes through the heat exchanger first and you heat that water up its not cooling your exhaust manifolds and risers enough maybe im just worrying to much

Your risers should run hot enough to be *just* too hot to hold your hand on them.

There have been some people that have had closed cooling using an Alpha raw water pump and had the engine run a bit hot.

The water in the heat exchanger doesn't (or shouldn't ) get all that hot. You could put a temp gage on the riser water supply (heat exchanger discharge) hose and measure it to be sure.

You should be using a 160 degree stat. The engine will probably run near 180 at a steady state cruise. Is this a "FULL" closed cooling system (block+ manifolds)?

What were you cleaning out of your risers?

You have a "new" engine, the manifolds and risers are new aren't they?

the exhaust manifold and risers are off old engine should I change them???? running 160 thermostat and it is full closed cooling system.
