My wife and I are wanting to buy a new boat. Neither one of us have ever owned a boat so I have many questions. I have looked at several boats and I have narrowed it down to 2. A alumacraft or a tracker. which is better, alumacraft or traker ? for 11,395 we can get a alumacraft 165 Navigator with a trolling motor, depth finder and 50H.P tiller motor. But for 10,599 we can get a Pro Guide V16 with a trolling motor, depth finder and 50H.P motor and this boat is not a tiller. We basically will just fish nothing else so would you get a tiller or console? For the money the tracker seems to be a better boat. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Alumacraft has a better reputation than tracker around here but there are a lot of Trackers that seem to meet their objectives. I wonder how steering a 50HP tiller would be. At local fishing lakes, 25+HP are usually remote steering (console or stick).

BL...

Just my .02, of the two get the tracker, you say you will just be fishing (HA HA), not being crud but once you start you will find the wife wants to pilot the boat. Its a lot less tiring to set down and steer at a console than to set at the back of the boat working a tiller. Thus you fish longer as wife is not nagging. ;)

Agreed. If/when out in rought weather a tiller is no fun and only a minor mistake can cause dangerous situations. The different movements from the motor while running are better controlled on a remote as the steering cable will control the motor at all times. Also, vinrations are much less felt as you do not sit with the motor right in your hand.
Steering 'car-wise' even allows friends etc. to take part.
