Got problem with cooling system on a alphaone mercury cruiser inboard outboard 2001 3.0 liter.

Change pump lower unit and the other pump witch is driven by the alternator belt that one was in real bad Shape. What i want to know is that is it normal that water only comes out when the thermostat seems to open. The engine doesnt seems To overheat so far. It goes up to 170 degree then comes down To about 150. But thats the only time that water is comming out by the exhaust. Compare to my friends boat they seems To always have water comming out. Mine when water come out it seems hot. Cheked every hose took them apart and water seems To flow everywhere. Can someone help me.

You should always have warm water dumping from the idle relief ports ( I think that's what they're called) the two holes about as big as your index finger on the bottom of the transom shield, and or out of the propeller when your running the engine on the garden hose. There is always fresh water flowing through your exhaust manifold to cool it.

Do you have the garden hose spigot wide open? Check your water supply hose between the out drive and the transom shield, make sure it's not kinked when the drive is all the way down. I have heard of that being a problem, , actually had that problem on my first I.O which just happened to be a 3.0L, which is nothing more than a coincidence, it has no affect on if the water supply hose is kinked.
