Hello Everyone,<br />I believe I'm in the right forum!? Please let me know.<br />I'm just getting into boating here w/ a 1969 24' Formula Thunderbird that I'm going to be restoring and have some questions about the engine and stern drive. This motor has not run in SEVERAL years, But was "winterized" before storage. There was insulation packed around the engine and the oil was FULL and CLEAN when i checked... if that makes a difference? Not sure if this info helps but... :D <br /> <br />I have a GM inline 6 cyl. w/ the #'s<br />"00N2 8213 328578 GM" and the valve cover has a sticker the says "160 h.p."<br />How/Where can I go to verify Yr/Model /hp it is?<br /><br />The Mercruiser Sterndrive says "h.p. 165" w/ a Sticker reading Serial #2698253<br />How/Where can I go to verify info on this unit?<br /><br />I've also heard that there is a difference between "Automotive" engine parts and whats called "Marine" engine parts!? Is this true & if so, Where can I go to get engine parts for this setup... Online or local vendor?<br /><br />

Bryan- it looks like(from my Merc book)you have a 1970 motor coupled to a 1969 drive...checked yesterday on some parts for a guy with a 1971 and the parts were obsoleted by Merc so if you need anything it could end up being used or aftermarket

Aftermarket parts ... never thought of that. Where/Who carries those?<br /><br />Will it be a problem getting this running or will/should I up date the drive to a newer year?

those oldies are pretty tough and you have nothing to lose by putting a little in it to see how it runs...actually the drive and engine parts are still readily available..it's the exhaust elbow, manifolds, motor mounts, etc that are getting tough to find...two main aftermarket suppliers are Sierra and Aqua Power(actually joined as one company)and almost any marine supply house knows of them...iboats also sells them
