Hi, I am having trouble figuring out which flywheel puller I will need. I have a 1995 40HP Force. Here is a link to one I am interested in. If anyone can help me and tell me if this kind would work, that would be great. The original tool for that motor is discontinued. I have already measured everything but still can't figure it out. Thanks.

If your engine is listed as it working on it, then it should. But usually you can go to the auto parts store and borrow a three arm puller and some grade eight bolts and pull the flywheel.. It is up to you. However, do expect some really hard efforts to remove the flywheel. Everybody has a really tuff time removing their flywheels because of how they are installed with a precision taper joint. JMHO!

There may be a black plastic plug in the center of the flywheel. Remove it and check to see if there are internal threads in the hole. If there are it is a Mercury Flywheel and the removal tool should work. After removing the flywheel nut screw in the large black piece all the way (by hand). Then screw in the center bolt. Hold the black piece with a big wrench and tighten the center bolt. GRUNT tight. If the flywheel does not pop off wedge a large screwdriver or prybar under the rear edge of the flywheel and smack the livin' hell out of the center bolt. Do not put the screwdriver or prybar under so far that it touches the stator windings--stay near the rim and push down hard while belting the center bolt.

I have also had luck smacking the flywheel with a rubber mallot after tightening down on the flywheel puller nut.
