need help with force lower units

hi, i am a newbie to boat owning and have a few questions.

1. what lower units are interchangeable with a 1993 force 120?

2. how would i find out which one i have?


the reason i ask is because i bought a boat with a 93 force 120 on it and the owner before me told me that the lower unit was rebuilt in 2003 and the color of the unit is gray in color not the black like the rest of the outboard. i recently winterized the the motor and upon changing the gear lube it was milky white. i decided to just buy a seal kit and change them all so i don't know what to order. please help thank you!!!!

Almost all lower units from 1979 Chrysler up to 1994 Force will bolt up to the 1993 midleg. NONE were grey, so let's go on the assumption that your lower unit is repainted.

IF your lower unit has a dual exhaust, it is probably original. Dual exhaust units can be identified by the water inlets being in a vertical line from just above the gearcase torpedo up towards the cavitation plate. Single exhaust units have the water inlets on the side of the gearcase torpedo in line with the prop shaft.

If it is a single exhaust lower unit, it is prior to 1989-1990. If it is a dual exhaust unit, it will be post 1989.
