Hello,
I have read the forums for the last 2 days before registering and have not found the answer to my question. My Merc outdrive on my Wellcraft Nova has a number as follows: Merc. 260 6986287 I-50R. Could anyone please tell me what exactly this model is? I'm confused as to it being an Alpha, pre-Alpha, or R drive. I have even looked at the links to other websites but still can't figure it out.
Thanks,
Ed

Ya I think it's a R drive also. If the lower unit is seperated look at the top of the drive shaft, if it has a little pin in the center then you have a R drive.

Scott

Thanks Trent. Next question would be, is it possible the pre-load pin at the top of the shaft broke off? If so, is this pin easy to put back in the top of the shaft? I do have the lower unit off.
Thanks,
Ed

And thank you too Scott. I believe that pin was there. But, it isn't anymore. There is a little hole in the top of that shaft. And there was a little bit of metal spring up in the top spline but no pin whatsoever. Is it easy to replace and what is it's purpose?

Ed

I'm not sure if it's serviceable? as for the reason for it, it adds a preload to the upper bearing. On the MR the upper bearing is locked into place with a nut.

Scott
