Mine is the same year as yours, but a different manufacturer. I grab the bottom of the t-handle, where it pivots... and then pull it outward (left) from the control box to get mine into reverse.

Mine goes into forward and reverse gear fine, I just cant seem to get it to shift out of gear so all I have is just throttle.

I push the throttle only button in and try to pull the base towards the port side, but it doesnt budge.

i just push my button and it disengages the gear shift. just push the button hard, and move throttle forward.

Are you saying that it won't go into neutral while running, or even with the engine off?

Did grabbing the base of the handle and manually pulling it outward help?

All of what you said is correct. I have tried just pushing the button in and then move the handle forward and, pushing the button in and pulling the handle base towards port side.

If it's an aluminum colored button just below and aft of the lever, have you tried pulling it? Some of them pulled out for Neutral only.

Have you tried spraying any lubricant in there?...I would think that an '87 would have the fat black button that you depress......JK

Re: Need help with Quicksilver remote

I think I have the exact same shifter. Mine would not come out of throttle only last week at the dock. After fiddling around with it for a while I sprayed some CRC lube in the hole after removing the button and nut that holds the shifter on. After spraying I did notice that one of the tabs on the end of the button had broken off and was behind the nut. After removing this it came out of neutral and shifted fine. Not sure if it was the lube or the plastic tab that was stopping it from coming out of neutral.

Good Luck,
Melman

nope
you have a push to throttle box. looks like a commander 2000.
to opererate you have to push the button in and squeeze the upper trigger that locks the handle in the netrual detent.
however there were many many problems with this box. there is a kit to fix it.
it takes about 3 hours to dissasemble and reassemble the box and the kit is about 25 dollars.
was a common failure.

Re: Need help with Quicksilver remote

most any merc dealer. its not a hard job just a pain in the rumpus job. carefully inspect the throttle drum for damage and its not in the kit.
occasionally we find one with a groove worn in it from the detent assy.
