Need help with tech setting

Hello I have a 1992 Johnson 3 cyl 60 hp, the tach I have is (I think...Due to it has a M logo on face) a Medallion techometer. Anyway the tach has 4 different settings on the rear of it 1, 2, 3 & 4. I removed the tach and engine from a boat I de-rig to swap over onto the Carolina Skiff. I never did verify the tach was working correctly but would assume it was. It was set on the #3 setting however I can not get the rpms to read over 1800 which I know is incorrect as the engine is running fine. Does any one know what would be the correct setting for this tach on my engine? I've searched google for several hrs and have not been able to locate what I'm looking for.

Just for the heck of it, try it on all 4 settings. Normally the tachs that are used on OMC outboards are set at 5 or 6. You may have a bad tach.
