I have a 1976 85hp Evinrude outboard. The trim was added by the person who gifted me the boat and motor. I don't know what trim motor it is. No numbers or anything on it. It has 2 wires coming from it. Blue (up) and Green (down) The wires to the relays were rusted and just in bad shape. The relays were bad too. Like a dummy I didn't pay attention when I removed the wires from the relays. I did some research on how to wire the trim but I have some across several ways to do it. I just want to make sure I get it correct. This is what I have come up with:

two 5 Pin relays

Pin 30- Green or Blue wires going directly to the trim motor
Pin 87A- Black (ground) coming from battery then jumped to Pin 85
Pin 87- Red (positive) coming from battery
Pin 86- Green or Blue going to toggle switch
Red (positive) wire go to toggle switch from battery

I want to use a 3 way toggle switch (on-off-on)
It was never wired into the control box where the throttle is. I really don't want to mess with it so that's why I want to use a 3 way toggle switch.

Will this work ?

Any advice will be appreciated !

Thanks !

Do I have to Jump 87A to 85 or can both of them have their own wires running to ground ??

Any ideas anyone ??

Thanks !

Another note. When you buy a replacement PTT motor for a 3 wire system, it often comes with a 2 wire PTT motor and a new wiring harness and relays. You may be able to buy the wiring harness separately. ARCO and Sierra are two of the more popular brands of replacement PTT motor.

Thank for the advice !! The two examples given by Chris1956 & S. Danforth are again different. Will they both work? Thanks Again !!
