Need help with trolling motor battery 12v

I need to buy a new battery. Money is not important. I want the best battery I can get for my trolling motor. I looked at the OPTIMA spiral cell type batteries(made my Johnson Controls not Exide), are they any good? Anyone know anything about Dry-Cell batteries? How about Gel Cell?

Nate -<br /><br />Try searching on the word "optima". Seems most people have had bad experiences with them in boats.<br /><br />There are other brands of batteries that are considered good. I usually go cheap - and for this Wal-mart makes some fine lead-acid marine batteries.<br /><br />I have a gel battery in my jump-n-carry. It doesn't get used much but seems like a nice battery. You would want one thats bigger than a jump-n-carry battery.<br /><br />But cost being no object - try a AGM battery - just not an Optima. The Optima's are verry picky about charging them while other brands of AGM battery will accept any charger.<br /><br />Let us know how it works out. Good luck.<br /><br />- Brian

For AGM batteries, try the Dual Pro web site at http://www.dualpro.com <br /><br />Avoid gel batteries- they are easily fried by high charging voltages- if you do look at gel, make sure that your charger is rated for gel batteries. In most uses, AGM is the way to go. No spilling, no boiling over due to high charge currents, and very durable. <br /><br />Also consider Trojan batteries. Several folks here swear by them. I myself purchased AGM batteries from Cabela's web site on sale... They have worked well for my use...<br /><br />I have heard very few knocks against Optima batteries- other than the cost.<br /><br />Orbital batteries (AGM) are marketed by Exide- they do come up a little short in power compared with what is available from Dual Pro, Optima, and Trojan.
