Hello! I'd appreciate any and all ideas on the value of an ancient wood boat and motors I recently inherited from my father. I need to sell them and get them off his neighbor's property.

1953 Wagemaker Wolverine 14' mahogany with forward and center decks. Original windshield, steering wheel and gas tank. On homemade trailer. In storage since 1970 when last in the water until September '02, then outside under tarp. 5hp and 25hp Johnson Seahorse outboard motors also unused since 1970. Stored inside. Condition is probably very rough but definitely restorable, I'm told.

My dad was the original owner of the boat. I have a letter from the dealer to my dad about the boat dated from 1953.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'm just looking for an honest value so I can dispose of it. Don't want to get rich -- or screwed!

All boats - especially project- and collctors items - are hard to put a value only from description. It takes some effort to look it over, test and examine etc. Therefore boats on the lower pricerange cannot have a big survey so any buyer will/have to bid very low to stay on the safe side.

Your boat certainly sounds like one of the two mentioned categories and a bunch of photos is a must for selling it at the right price.

Be aware also, that this forum does not allow small ads but other sites do. I'd suggest you put up an ad and get some bids - in fact the value is exactly that somebody wants to pay. Be patient and get a handful of bidders to get an idea.

Go to eBay. Search for something like wood boat or antique boat.

Then, find the "completed items" link on the left side. That will show you all the matches for auctions that have recently ended. So you see what actually sold for what price.

I'm guessing your boat is the $200-$700 range.
