We just bought this boat, and have no idea how to disconnect the lower unit from the top. The motor runs, we are just trying to make sure that everything is ready to put it in the water without getting stranded. The serial number is J0002080, and the Model number is 75643D. As far as we know the forward and reverse rod that goes to the motor is what is stopping it from dropping. If anyone has any idea how to help us any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Angie71.

Welcome to iboats.
This needs to be in the Johnson/Evinrude repair forum.

The shift rod connector is a hex headed pin below the bottom carburetor. It helps to have a flex socket and long extension to get it out.
(what's this got to do with 5500rpm?)
