I really need help understanding something. I come to this thread quite frequently, and I read questions, read answers and have noticed that as most people seem to help and be helped around here, it isn't without a great amount of IGNORANCE that these people are helped. I could see people not wanting to post for simple reasons, such as ignorant answers or comments left by DON S. See here is the thing Don, if you don't want to help someone DON'T. But, by no means, should you believe that you are someone high and mighty. I read one post where you were belittling a person for there spelling and run on sentences. Well, thing is, I don't believe you of all people should be mocking someone. I've read your posts and I found one of several with something spelled incorrectly (i've copied and pasted below in case you do not know what I am referring too). Maybe, instead of being such an ******* you could simply answer the questions that are being asked, and, if that is too much for you, then simply don't type a response. You make yourself sound as though no one around here would be able to fix their boats without you and your rude comments. Simply untrue. There are alot of people on these threads that know more than you and are KIND about it.

Re: Mercruiser 3.7L 1986 charging problem

One thing that was very common on the 470 engines was the magnets breaking loose and taking out the stator.
Here is a link to a service bulletin on troubleshooting the system.

You are going to find that no matter what part is bad, it's going to be more cost effective to replace the whole system with an alternator conversion kit.
I know the pulley with the magnets is NLA, and I thing some of the stators or regulators were also.

The big bold red lettering is what i was referring too.

You have no idea how wrong you are luv boating... no idea.

The rules of the forums are pretty simple, moderated well, and for the most part, age appropriate for everybody. As in, a family forum.

Aside from all of that.... if YOU don't like what you read in here. Then why don't YOU go away.

Re: Need Help!!

When i first found this site, i was elated. Here was a site where i could get some insight into the operation and mechanical aspects of boating.

Boating motors are different, plain fact.

And now to your post, When i started posting my posts were unreadable.

Maybe they are now also. i don't know.

What i do know, as a top flight mechanic you ain't gonna find no one better.

What i read from Don s is, highly professional, Insightful, unbiased, and candid, advise.

And all this with no cost to the lucky ones he responds to.

And what makes us lucky is there are other great mechanical minds here who also offer there advise.

Hard earned knowledge with hands on know how. Highly educated and certified bye many marine schools.

I think you owe him an apology.
