need help

i have 1984 22' godfrey fundeck it has 3.8 v6 omc stern drive my problem is it runs at 28 mph at 3100 rpm thats top speed. my buddies told me to replace the prop for more rpm's and top speed it has a 14 1/4 x 21pitch prop (#391202) on it if this is true what prop should i look at. 14 1/4 x 19pitch or what thanks gerald

Is that a pontoon?If so the speed seems pretty good.Rpm is low.Perhaps the tach is set wrong or not accurate.If tach is accurate you need to drop to a 16" pitch just to get to about 4,100 rpm.

You may want to do a compression check.A 21 might be a little too much prop but a 16 to reach 4100 seems extreme to me.Your max recommended rpm may be on a label on the motor.Probably something like 4200 to 4600.
But get the actual somewhere.
