I have a 86 rinker 17ft open bow. I am looking into buying a 93 VIP 17ft open bow. What I need help with is are the parts interchangeable? By parts I mean anything but the motor. I want to redo my rinker interior...everything from seats to the wood trim. I also wouldn't mind having the extra parts like throttle cables, steering wheel, gauges, ex...

What other information is needed? And thank you for the welcome, I'm a first time boat owner and I feel like I just joined the skull and bones club. Lol. any insights are appreciated.

Re: Need Help!

Sounds like you are a second time boat owner. Welcome to iboats. Like Bond-o says, it all depends. You can probably figure out something with the cosmetic stuff to make it work. It is gonna depend if the size of stuff is close or not and how it survives removal process.

Re: Need Help!

Still first time owner for now...only have the Rinker...I was just thinking if I could get the second boat for $350 that's a lot cheaper than buying parts individually. I figured the cosmetic stuff could be made to fit...what I wasn't sure of was like the throttle cable and stuff like that. Can that stuff be cut to fit or to keep integrity should I leave it...or I was hoping someone had tried this before, since they are so similar and could kinda give me a short list of things that do work...I'm also thinking about just building bench seats along the side instead of the double seats that were there but I'm not sure if that would mess up my weight balance. I bought the boat with tons of ideas of what to do with it and I'm not really sure where or how to get started.again thanks for any input

Re: Need Help!

Throttle cables and steering cables mainly are sized by the length of the boat and cable routing.......

Now as far as idea's....you have to start and see what you got!
I used alot of carboard to make patterns and such to see what something looks like.

Re: Need Help!

Do you think you could take the interior of a Chevy truck and fit it in a ford? No disrespect intended.... it's doable..WITH lots of time and money. Find a boat just like yours....that's the one you use for spare parts and swapping interiors. That way it's way less time and WAY less $$$. If you think it's doable, make a thread and document how it goes. Me personally, I hate headaches and your idea sounds like a good factor to give yourself one. Please don't take my opinion as coming across rudely. But restos should be a hobby or fun type of activity. Just my 2cents. Josh
