Happy New year to all, I need some idears of how some of you have hoisted you engines out of your boats
I have twin merc 470s and need to rebuild one or maybe both, Or find a better set of twins to match to my outdrives
but first I have to get them out, the top of the transom is about 71/2 off the ground and I will need to swing them
in to the back of my truck to get them to the shop. Any idears would be helpful.....the boat is on lawn not asphalt.

Thank for any help

i just used a block and tackle from a beam in the shop so if you can find someone with a strong beam just use a block and tackle

If you have access to a fork lift, as long as you have the ceiling clearance, an a truck that goes high enough...
Just my.02 cents. I know its kind of a tall order.

Try moving the boat under a tall tree limb, and hanging a chain style hoist from the limb. They're all good options. All Mercruiser I/O's are easy to remove from the boat--two bolts and the lag screws on the bottom of the front motor mount. Unplug the wiring and unhook the exhaust header/elbow. Pull the outdrive and you're ready to pull the motor. All in all, a good mechanic could have the engine on the ground in just a few minutes.

You might want to start by running your engines to operating temperature, then check your engines out closely. Run compression test on all 4 cylinders. Have the engine scoped.

No other engines will work on your outdrive, as they were specifically designed only for 470's. They're simple motors, but some people have troubles rebuilding them--camshaft seals most common problem.
