Hi there,

We are trying to figure out how to install CD player and two speakers in our boat. We have searched high and low on the web to no avail. We have a 2001 JVC CD player, but can't find any information on how to do it ourselves on the web..11 wires in all sticking out from the back of stereo. You guys have been so helpful before, could anyone lend any insight on how to wire this thing?? It would be nice to have some tunes by Labor day..... ;-)

Angela

what color the wires are is a good start. Although I personally dont know how well a cd player is going to stand up to the shock of being in a boat.

If your question is about what all the wires mean, did you try the JVC customer service site?
Here's a link.

If this is a car unit that you're installing in the boat, try The12volt.com there's a bunch of knowledge there!

At minimum, you'll have 2 power wires (one switched, one not), a ground, and then 2 wires for each speaker (probably 2 fronts and 2 rears).

So,
 •
• 2 power
• 1 ground
• 2 front right
• 2 front left
• 2 rear right
• 2 rear left
• 11 wires total
Do you need the color codes for the wires (should be marked on a new unit) or?????

It super easy really.

An Ignition switched wire (usually RED)- find a spare slot in your fuse panel to connect it to that is key on hot.

Ground (usually black)- Battery - terminal

Memory keep alive (usually yellow w/ a big black box in the middle of the wire) - connect to a source that is always on (keeps your clock and station presets alive in memory)

Left front speaker + (normally white) - connect to + terminal on LF speaker

Left Front speaker - ( normally white w/ black tracer) - connect to LF speaker - terminal

Right Front Speaker + ( normally Gray) - connect to RF speaker + terminal

Right Front Speaker - (normally gray w/ black tracer)- connect to RF speaker - terminal

That's it.

The other wires are:

Blue: Power antenna (doubt you have that on a boat) (don't use it)

Green: Left rear + speaker wire
Green w/ black tracer: LR - wire
Purple: Right rear + speaker wire
Purple w/ black tracer: RR - speaker wire

Then there are the 2 RCA connectors, one Red and one White. Those are for power amps. Doubt you have one of those, so ignore them, too.

If you don't get the CD player soaking wet a lot it should last a long time....ours do.
When we are really in the rough and running hard they will skip though. Don't know too many people that don't have them in their boats.
