Re: Need info about a propeller

A couple of good pictures would help. Usually these will have the size stamped near the base of the blades
or under the prop nut. Is it a pin drive or a spline? How many splines? Is it a thru hub prop.

Without knowing more, I can still tell you a couple of things: First, it is BRONZE, not brass. Zinc in copper and zinc alloy brass dissociates in water, especially salt water, setting up a galvanic reaction, and the prop will corrode. Tin in the copper and tin alloy bronze will not dissociate.

Second, If memory serves correctly, the AMC series props were about 10 3/8 to 10 1/2 inches in diameter. They are very old, last made around the 1970s. Stainless steel supplanted them. Again, if memory serves correctly, they were made for OMC and Chrysler engines--OMC props were plain bore with a shear pin drive while Chrysler were splined with a thrust pin in the hub (like the first photo). Not sure if they were made for Mercury.

Size was not stamped anywhere on the prop unless it was repaired at a prop shop. The AMC number defined it by diameter, pitch, and also engine.

You can google Michigan Propellers and see their old catalogs or email customer service for full specs on your prop. If you look closely, in the last two photos, behind the girls you can see an AMC two blade "racing" propeller.

Polish it, and hang it on your wall as a conversational piece.

Re: Need info about a propeller

The motors came with a 9 X 8 prop. Its possible the 8 1/2 X 9 could produce good speed on a light fast boat.
