Need info on 1976 Johnson Outboard

Hi again! We have a 1976 Johnson outboard that is 15HP, but has a 9.9 cap. The model number is 15R76A. I was wondering if anyone can give me any information that would be pertinent to selling it. Thank you!

Other than being a 1976 15 HP, nothing really to add. Good Motor, though. Do you have more info on the motor? Condition? Been run lately and does it run well?

Well, it hasn't been run in 6 months from what we're told. It came with the boat, and we haven't used it since it's a sail boat and we haven't *knock wood* needed it. I was curious though, as to why it would have a cap that says 9.9 hp when the engine is, I'm told, a 15hp?

Someone lost the old one overboard, and found the 9.9 fit? <br /><br />EDIT: The 9.9 and 15hp are very similair engines. Many parts swap from one to the other. Are you looking to buy it?

some places want let you run anything larger than a 9.9 so they put a 9.9 on a 15

Papasage is exactly right. Some lakes have a 9.9 limit. Unfortunatly, what isn't so easy to hide is a 9.9 wide open, and another 9.9 running laps around it!
