Re: Need info. on how to check fluids

About the only fluids you really need to check on a outboard is the lower unit fluid.
Since you just bought the boat it would be worth your while to drain the lower unit and fill it back up with new oil.
The engine is 2-stroke so you mix oil in your gas and that lubes your cylinders and internal engine parts. You need to find out what your mixture ration is for that motor. You also need to get a set of "muffs" for the lower unit so you can connect a water hose to the motor and run it in the driveway to make sure that the water pump is working correctly and the motor is cooling itself.Plus, you can see how it starts so you are not sitting at the ramp cranking, and cranking and cranking till battery is dead.
I'm not a expert by any means. These are just some general tips for a outboard. One of the OMC guru's will probably give you alittle more in-depth information here pretty quick.

Try the library for a manual if they have one it
will help till yours comes along.
Your mix is 50:1 (16oz. of tcw3 rated oil to 6 us gallons.
To change lower unit lube remove the vent and drain screws (large flat head screws in the lower
unit). Refill through the drain until lube comes out the vent. put in vent plug then drain plug.
Lube is usually available in 12 oz tubes.
Youll need 2.
Do you know how to start and run the
motor?
