I recently acquired a Royal 2 cylinder 5 H.P. that appears to be from the 40's or 50's. Has Royal on red fuel tank on top of engine and has plate on transom mount stating Atlas Supply Company, model # 2A3, serial # 205205. Also has detailed starting instructions and fuel/oil mix directions. It starts easily, but I can't see any water intake and think it is air cooled. I don't want to run it any more without being sure. I intend to use it on a small jonboat in the river 6-8 times a year if it runs as well as it started. Any info as to year model, air or water cooled would be appreciated.

Hello Haynan<br />Your Atlas Royal was made by the Gale div. of OMC. Model#2A3 is a 1947-48 5hp. I have no personal expirence with this model, but I am guessing the point gap, plug gap,etc will be the same as any other OMC product of this era. Sorry thats all I have on this one.

It's water cooled and was sold by Esso in the US. Atlas was Esso's brand for TBA stuff (tires, batteries and accessories)). My dad had a Royal 5 that I used for a number of years in the 50's.
