Just "inherited" a nice looking older Sears 12 hp outboard. Used in fresh water and stored for several years. Haven't tried starting it yet, but the controls work freely, and it turns over smoothly. Coulldn't find any info on it from the manuals at the library.
ser. # 59271 G 2791
Model # 571 59271
Questions: Year? Who made it? Were they considered any good ? Any source for manuals?
Thanks for any info!

Did a little research workfor you.
it's a 1965 West Bend (1959-1963)
Does not look like you will have much luck finding a manual from what I read.
The info I found actualy came from an inquiry in the forum under Sears manual, post 2001-11-13
Good luck.

Re: Need Info on Sears outboard

The 571 indicates built by west bend.
West Bend was purchased by Chrysler in about
65/66 and became Force around 85.Parts are hard to find though Im sure some Chrysler parts will fit.NAPA auto parts lists some Chrysler/Force parts in their Marine Products catalog.
West bends were considered innovative
reasonably good motors were only marketed under
their own name domestically for about 9 years.
Never had much of a dealer network.
But date back to the early 40s.
They were one of the first outboard with a fiberglass cowl in 53.
