Need info on tuning a Mecury 2.5 HP Two Stroke

I have a Mercury 2.5 HP two stroke that came with a little boat I bought a few years back. It is a very small sailboat so I usually just use the little electric that came with it until I raised the sails. I now want to get it running for use as a dingy motor. I have found links on how to work with the spark plugs and change the lower oil.

Where can I find the info plate so I can figure out the year and get the manual to figure out the spark plug gaps and other info?

What other things should I look at to inspect and repair on this motor?

It is a 1999 ME2.5s
SN OG713802

Last time it was used it sat idle in a lake in Utah lake in Provo. The lower unit is covered with some type of lake scum but when I opened up the cowling the inners looked extremely clean to the point I doubt it was used much. So I am going to change the spark plugs and try to run it.

The tank is dry, should I try to put anything trough it to clean out the tank and carburetor?

The service manual you require is P/N 90-44477-1 and if you PM me with an email address, I will forward a copy of the manual.

You can mix some Seafoam with the gas you put in the tank which will help the fuel system. As far as the tank itself goes, I would just slosh some fuel through it and dump it before adding your premix fuel and Seafoam.

If you don't know how long it has been since the impeller was changed, it would be a good idea to do that as well.
