I have a 1967 9.5 that cant get my boat to plane and only does 7mph. I have the chance to get a 1962 10hp. Will I get more speed and power? Will it weigh more than my 9.5?
I personally would buy the 10 hp motor as long as it is in good running condition. OMC took a step back with the 9.5 hp as far as maintenance costs and performance are concerned. If you want to fix your 9.5 check for spark on both cylinders you could be running on 1 cylinder. Also try running with the hood off those motors are notorious for expensive exhaust leaks.
The 9.5 HP is likely running on 1 cylinder.----The 9.5 list at 60 lbs.----The 62 model 10 is likely 64 LBS.-----I like the 62 and 63 model 10 HP----Easy to work on and consumable parts are easy to find !
10s from the mid-50s to mid-60s were powerful motors. I'm not very familiar with the 9.5, but know the 10 will take the 7 1/2 (same year, condition, same boat) hands down, and will troll down nearly the same.
