I just purchased the 2004 34 Venture.
I need to buy new batteries. I have done a little reasearch.
Does any one recomend gel or agm. Price is about the same depending on the quality. The boat has a Guest 2620 Charge pro.

I believe you have to tweek the charger for the gels and agms. So you dont screw the batteries up.
Any advise on how to do that?

Thanks Casa

Unless the charger has a "charge profile" selector switch there is nothing you can do. Visit the Guest web site. They should have user manuals you can download or a FAQ area that indicates whether or not your charger can be used with either/or AGM-Gel cells.

Re: Need New Batteries

I would suggest you check Cosco and Walmart batteries. Unless it mounted up front where there is a lot of pounding I would suggest regular batteries not marine.

Why would I suggest that?

Because they have 3 years free replacement and 100 month prorated warranty. Marine batteries are 1 year.
I have use regulay batteries on my 21 foot Runabout since it was new in 1980 and have not had any battery that did not last at least 6 years.

Second reason is they are a lot cheaper.

Third reason is any charger will work right.

If your keep your batteries charged and not discharge more than 50 percent your batteries will also last a long time. Leave them discharged after your done for the day and you will be changing batteries offten.

Re: Need New Batteries

I bought a boat 2 years ago and the seller said it needed new batteries. The engine batt is ok, but the TM's bleed off over time. So I just put it on the internal charger the day/night before I go fishing and do not have a problem.

I could buy new batteries and I will when they get to be a problem. The TM's will be size 27 deep cycle. If I change the engine battery at a later date it will be the first size 27 that I see on the shelf; all from wallyworld.

I have a AC Delco Voyager Group 31 Trolling battery. I bought it 7 years ago with the though of having to replace it for the last 3 years. This year may finally be its last? I going to go out and buy another Delco if this is the year my finally dies. AC delcos served me well.
