the bunks on my trailer are 20' 2x4's wrapped in carpet. I'm not certain if they were pressure treated or not. I do know from reading that PT lumber is a no no with aluminum toons. So I need 20' bunks to replace the deteriorated ones I have. suggests on material and source? 2x4's at lowes and home depot are 16' max...

I just got some 20' 2x6 PT lumber from McCoys. Not sure where you are located, but they do carry 20' lumber if you have one near. Additionally, you cannot use ACQ or CCA treated lumber in contact with aluminum. You CAN use MCA or MCQ treated lumber, as it is non-corrosive to aluminum. This is commonly sold under the brand name "Yellawood," among others. The lumber yard should be able to tell you what chemical is used to treat the wood if there is not an information tag attached to the end grain.

If all you can find is ACQ or CCA you can use it if you will put a membrane between it and the bunk post. I recently replaced my friends bunks and used sill-seal (its primary use is on exterior walls between the sub-floor and sole plate).

I used pressure treated wood on my bunks but before I put them on I used a good Paint ,a couple of coats of exterior. Then I put on those plastic slides all the way around.
