Hey guys. I'm new to boating so maybe someone can help. I have a fiberglass boat. It is an ugly yellow color and I would like to paint it silver or gray on bottom, the trim around the outer lip will be white, and the bow will be black. What would be a decent way to paint it. I'm not looking for perfection, i just want to make it look good for the summer.

Should i paint right over it?
Should i use primer?
What kind of paint and primer? Will regular oil base paint work well?

Thanks for any help.

No, i don't have all that equipment. Maybe just a brush or roller to get the bottom done quicker(or maybe that's not a good idea).

There are marine paints on the market that are designed to work with a roller and a brush. Interlux, Awlgrip, Pettits, to name a couple. Do a search on marine paints, there is a ton of info on these products. The instructions for using them are pretty specific, and they are nothing like applying house paint, so be sure to educate yourself a bit before starting the job.

Here is a example of using a marine self leveliing paint, all that is needed is a few 4.00 roller's sand paper and a litle time and patience.
