Hello everyone....
I've been working on my grandpa's 1977 50 hp mercury s/n 4707302 for him the last couple weekends. It stopped squirting water out of the tell tale so he figured the impeller was bad because he had the same thing happen several years ago and thats what it was.
I got a new impeller, gaskets, wear plate, water tube seal, etc and installed them and I'm still not getting any water out of the tell tale. The boat was in the water during testing so I know it was summered deep enough.
I hooked a garden hose up to the water tube when I had it apart and I got a real good stream out of the tell tale that way so I know its not clogged up.
To my dad and I the housing looked fine, but what else could be our problem??? We even replaced the gaskets and o ring under the base of the pump, and the inlet to the pump is perfectly clear.
My grandpa doesn't have a lot of extra cash to throw at it so he is doesn't really want to buy a water pump kit with housing for $60-$70 and not have it fix the problem.
Do you guys think that the housing is probably the problem or is there somthing else we are over looking??????????
Thanks for all you help guys.......
My grandparents are ready to go fishing and I think if it takes to much longer to fix they'll be rowing there 26' pontoon boat to get out on the lake......... LOL
